Biography
Ms. Kenia Garcia was born in Cuba. She came to the United States with her family at the age of 14 aboard a raft. She, her family and her dog were detained by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (DHS/ICE), formerly the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), at the Krome Service Processing Center detention center.
Ms. García graduated from Troy University, where she obtained the highest honors, summa cum laude. She attended law school at Florida International University and graduated cum laude, ranking third in her class. While she was attending law school, she participated in the prestigious Immigration and Human Rights clinic at Florida International University under the tutelage of Mr. Juan Gómez.
Ms. García worked at Miami Legal Services, dealing with landlord and tenant matters. Subsequently, she had the opportunity to conduct several trials while serving as a certified legal intern at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. During the time she served on the Third District Court of Appeal, she provided assistance to U.S. District Judge Barbara Lagoa, who is currently a justice of the Supreme Court of Florida.
Backed by her own life experiences, Ms. García is a committed and dedicated advocate for her clients. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
